Swim Across America (SAA) is a wonderful organization whose goal is to raise money to fight cancer and support people with cancer and their families. In July 2023 and July 2024, I volunteered with my parents for the SAA swim in Nantucket, MA while on vacation there. SAA events are meant to raise money, which stays and is used in the town where the event takes place, which is unusual for fundraisers. This was our first-time volunteering with SAA, so we learned that volunteers can support the event, both in and out of the water, or actually raise money from friends / family and swim with the other participants. Both years we participated we were in charge of putting temporary tattoos on all "rookie" swimmers so they could be identified and watched over closely by the safety team. However, they are many more jobs that would be appropriate for families with teen and pre-teen children. Most of the kids volunteering those days were with their families.
I would enthusiastically recommend participating in Swim Across America. We had a fun day for a great cause, helped to raise money to fight cancer, and made new friends. SAA events are currently held in Boston and Nantucket each summer, as well as many other cities across the US if you happen to be travelling.
