Have you ever not had enough food to eat? What if you were too sick or old to go to the grocery store. Community Servings' (CS) website describes their mission to "provide scratch-made medically tailored meals to individuals and their families experiencing critical or chronic illness and nutrition insecurity." This means that the meals are "made from scratch" and provide the type of food necessary for people with specific nutritional needs (diabetics / gluten free / etc). Food or nutrition insecurity is not reliably having enough food. I volunteered with my family to deliver Thanksgiving meals to clients of CS on two separate years, and the clients were extremely grateful.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for teens or pre-teens working with their family, though it is important to know that a car is needed for the deliveries. There are many other chances to volunteer with CS, including working in the kitchen to prepare the food. However, that is an option only for volunteers 13 years old and above.
I would highly recommend volunteering with Community Servings, a chance to help the sick and elderly of Boston, and those with food insecurity.
