Did you ever think about volunteering while traveling with your family? In March 2022 I volunteered with the Surfrider Foundation while on vacation in Kauai, HI with my parents. The Surfrider Foundation website says that their volunteers are the "first response to local threats in coastal communities across the US." They are specifically interested in plastic reduction, beach access, ocean protection, clean water, and the coast & climate. We participated in two beach cleanups while in Kauai, and helped the Foundation understand the threats to local beaches and sea life by photographing the trash we found.

This is a great, fun way to volunteer while in Hawaii, allowed us to clean up and walk some beautiful beaches, and would be appropriate for pre-teens and teens traveling with their families.
